CTM is looking for an intern to support its Booking, Administration and Production activities outside of the scope of the yearly CTM Festival. The spring/summer internship can vary in length from 3–4 months between March and July 2018, starting no later than 1 April 2018. Applications can be sent until 30 September 2017. Due to the fact that the internship requires a strong command of German, the following announcement is provided in German only.
Beginning with a performance of Sote's "Sacred Horror in Design" with Arash Bolouri, Behrouz Pashaei, and Tarik Barri, our prelude series also features a double-bill with Tara Transitory aka One Man Nation and Rabih Beaini in September, plus a November concert uniting the confrontational sounds of Pharmakon and Moor Mother. Half a year after an energising 2017 Festival, we’ve begun to lay the groundwork for the 19th edition – our last "teenage" festival before we celebrate twenty years of creative exchange and collaboration in 2019. We’re very excited to announce that CTM 2018 will take place from 26 January to 4 February 2018 at various Berlin venues. The new theme is TURMOIL.
The CTM Radio Lab, returning in 2018 for the fifth year in a row, acts as a platform for unusual audio projects that explore the intersection between radio and live performance or installation while also relating to the festival theme. The 2018 commissioned work will premiere in the form of an installation or performance at CTM 2018 before being broadcast in Deutschlandfunk Kultur’s Klangkunst programme and by the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation. The deadline for submissions to our open call is 17 September 2017.
The 31st edition of our sister festival, transmediale, has been announced. Taking place 31 January – 4 February 2018, transmediale will return to their home venue, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) and explore the 'face value' theme. An online submission platform for the festival and their related projects and activities remains open via their website.
The third edition of the Technosphärenklänge series, produced by the HKW in collaboration with CTM Festival, featured three projects operating at the border of art and science. Listen to talks – by Guy Ben-Ary, who with collaborators created the world’s first neural synthesizer that performs with human musicians; by Evelina Domnitch & Dmitry Gelfand, who levitate and shape water droplets using sound waves; as well as Robert Henke's exploration of the interconnection of spatial sound and high-energy lasers – via our soundcloud page.
CTM's ongoing Berlin Current initiative, which aims to support the city's emerging artists and sounds, visist Montreal's premier electronic music festival. Lotic, N.M.O., Sarah Farina and Dis Fig join forces on a free outdoor stage in the heart of the city, with Montrealers Toboggan and Pelada rounding-out the lineup.
CTM Festival collaborates with the Outernational Days in Bucharest to present "Everything Visible Is Empty", a new live project by Rabih Beaini in collaboration with Mazen Kerbaj, Raed Yassin, Diana Miron, and Bogdana Dima. Following an unexplored cultural path, the project taking place July 8 at The Ark, will highlight an unpredictable confrontation of artistic forces between some of the most forward-thinking contemporary musicians from Beirut and Bucharest. The Outernational Days are a 3-day festival dedicated to musical voices from the periphery, organized in the second year by The Attic.
